Things end, but memories last forever.

Hey you guys, I know I haven’t posted on here for a while, but I haven’t died yet. You’re stuck with me. There are pretty much 2 (or 3 depending on how you look at it) things I want to talk about.

1) The first chapter of House of Hades came out today

2) The ending of the Sammy Keyes series

HOUSE OF HADES FIRST CHAPTER SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!
Okay, so first, the House of Hades. I really liked this first chapter (which was in Hazel’s point of view by the way) because although it didn’t give away how Annabeth and Percy are in Tartarus besides them still being alive, it established a lot of character development. I know, I know, only 3 out of the 7 were actually conscious but still. You get to see a side of Leo that you’ve ever seen before; he blames himself for what happened back in Rome and is working himself to death so that he can rescue Percy and Annabeth in Greece. It’s more of the bitter side of him, which we don’t really get to see, which was nice. I’m really interested in seeing how his character develops. Then there’s Nico. Nico’s healing and getting back to the way he was before Tartarus and he actually isn’t acting that crazy, so I figure Percy and Annabeth won’t be as bad as I was thinking after they get out of Tartarus (if they get out). And then there’s Hazel. I can’t wait for some sibling bonding/connection between Nico and Hazel; they’re the only siblings on the quest and it’s nice seeing Nico have a sister, a family, again. He trusts her more than anyone, which can be determined based on the fact that Nico told Hazel about a special job/task that needs to be done at the House of Hades in order to close the doors and tells her to keep it on the down-low.  I’m really happy with her POV for the first chapter; it gives a lot of insight into her character and some others. Especially Percy.

It’s always so interesting to see other’s POV’s of Percy. In the last book (MoA), we got to see inside Percy’s head; all his doubts and criticisms against himself, but then Hazel comes along in the first chapter of HoH saying that he’s what kept the 7 together, the GLUE as Juno put it. It’s like while we saw him face all these internal challenges and hardships, the others saw someone who was confident. I think it really reflects the characterization of Percy from the first series. In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, we saw Percy as quirky, fun and having self doubt, but all the campers at Camp Half Blood saw him as some kind of hero who had these awesome powers. It’s the same concept; while Percy doesn’t think highly of himself, the others put him on some pedestal to be praised and admired. Percy really must be good at pretending everything’s fine because he’s got most people fooled. I wonder what the others would think if they saw him as he was-his self doubts and the challenges Gaia gives him on the emotional level.

I mean, Percy knows a lot about his fate and what’s to come (he’s been given many hints by Juno, Phineas and Gaia), yet he still pretends everything’s fine. It’s like the other characters are too memorized with the IDEA of who Percy Jackson is-this great hero with awesome powers who will save the day-that they don’t see the tired, self doubting, sad REAL Percy. It was such a huge difference in perspectives, and what Hazel said really stood out to me. Compared to Percy being “useless” and “doubtful” in MoA (his perspective), Hazel responding to those same actions in HoH by saying how he was confident and lead the group forward is very opposite. Percy just has this eternal sadness that has always interested me. I can see how his character is the same when compared to the first series, to Lightning Thief even. He was the son of one of the Big Three and he was considered very powerful, but he always doubted that power. It makes me sad when I reread the part in MoA where Percy says “You’re wrong. I’m not as good as you think I am” (paraphrased). His fear of suffocation in all these expectations people give him while he feels weak and helpless is going to eat him away. I hope Rick Riordan writes a scene or addresses this in more depth in the future; everyone believes in Percy, but he doesn’t believe in himself.

And then Hazel goes on and tells herself that she needs to do her best so that Percy and Annabeth can be proud of her. It’s just really cool to see Hazel’s perspective of the duo; they seem so vulnerable in their own perspectives but so confident in others’; it’s a huge contrast.

In other news, Wendelin wrote the last sentence of the last chapter in the last book of the Sammy Keyes series last Saturday (I think it was). It really made me sad because I grew up with these books, and I will cry my eyes out when it comes to a close. What Mark said on Wendelin’s blog about the books is so true:

“To me the core of the books wasn’t the mystery at all. It was the whole ‘fitting in’ thing. You know, when you’re twelve or thirteen and suddenly you leave the K-thru-6th land of‘children only’ and you’re thrown into this weird menagerie of half-grown semi adult creatures… of several sub-species. The spoiled rich kids. The jocks. The popular ones. The nerdy outcasts. And all of those (all of us?) who don’t fit neatly into one of the above boxes, but are somewhere on the continuum between them, just trying to fit in. Who just want a good friend or two who understands them and makes them feel like they’re not facing the universe alone.” -Mark

I first started reading the books when I first entered 6th grade and became obsessed with them in 7th grade. They’re what helped me find my groove in middle school (heck, even high school) and they taught me a LOT. I don’t have a huge group of friends (just 3 really close ones), but I love them dearly and Sammy taught me that that was okay. She taught me it was okay to be spunky and be who I am. So what if she wanted to wear high-tops? She was gonna. She didn’t let people tell her who she was or what she should be. She surrounded herself with friends that understood her and was who she was without being ashamed. She showed me it was okay to be me and to mess up. She really helped me throughout middle school and now high school, and now the books are closing in as I’m closing in on my child hood.
The last heroes of Olympus book and the last Sammy Keyes book are coming out the fall of my senior year of high school, before I turn 18 in May. I’ve grown up with these books and they’ve shaped me who I am today and have helped me not to abandon who I am. I’m not saying I’ll give up being a fan of these series (they’ll always be in my heart and I’ll reread them), but their stories of growing up will come to a close as a I face the world as an adult. And as my favorite characters (friends, family) grow up to become something bigger than they are to reach a destiny that is unknown to them, I will face a destiny that is uncertain. It truly is as if the books and I grew up together, and now we have to part ways. And the thing is? I’ve always been terrible at saying goodbye.

I have been Healed.

I feel like crying. No joke. I just can’t wait for my books.  Now you have to understand, it’s SAMMY KEYES AND THE POWER OF JUSTICE JACK I am obsessed with reading right now.
My obsessions change over the year. When one of my books is coming out in a month or two, or I get news on it, I flip out. I’ve been waiting for the next Sammy Keyes and Heroes of Olympus books to come out since October. I was obsessed! I couldn’t focus; it consumed my mind. Then, the Hunger Games movie was coming up soon (which held off all my other obsessions for the entire month of March.)
Now, when I have an obsession, I usually read fanfiction or reread the books again. And I have something to admit. Lately I’ve been more obsessed with Heroes of Olympus than Sammy Keyes. I mean, HoO CONSUMES MY MIND EVERY SINGLE MOMENT!!!! I mean seriously. During geometry (during a test mind you), science, in Health, on the bus, on my way home, when I got home, Heroes of Olympus has been on my mind. Mostly, the Percabeth reunion. (What? I’m only a human. Scratch that, I’m only a fan-girl.) I haven’t been thinking about Sammy as much. And I feel guilty, because I LOVE Sammy Keyes. And I don’t know my obsession with Sammy hasn’t been as frequent. Maybe it’s because The Mark of Athena will answer A LOT of questions I have and has been a lot of talk on the internet? I don’t know.
But I was worried. Very worried. Why, you might ask? Well I’ll tell you why: I was afraid I was growing out of Sammy. Which is weird, because I’m not old (I’m a freshmen, and there’s Steph and Sammy4ever who are older than me and still Sammy crazy) and it’s out of character for me to do that. It’s never happened to me before.
But guess what?
I’m not crazy!
I just needed a reminder of how much I love Sammy.
A few days ago, Steph and Kylie (at least, that’s her name on Blogger, her FF.net name is different) said they got it (JJ) and Steph talked about JJ (not a lot, but she talked about it) And guess what? I freaked out.
I need this book.  July! I need July to come! And I envy you Steph and Kylie. I do. And I know you can’t give any spoilers. At all. And I know that must be hard (because if it were me I would die), but REALLY!!!??? I might die. Steph already said that JJ was maybe 20-ish? And that it takes place in early December, maybe. And that has satisfied some of my hunger (weird questions/facts I wanted answered, but hey, I needed to know and it’s been bothering me)
And I know Wedgewood is part of the crime (courtesy of WVD’s blog) and that Sammy isn’t really a big fan of JJ, but her friends are, and that the Elvis Impersonator is back. But I need to know those Cammy moments!!! (Which I know you can’t tell me, of course), but are they sweet!? AWWW!!!!  Man, I need me some Cammy. And I can’t wait to see Sammy having a fan. It’ll be sweet. (How was having her have a fan?)
I need this book.
I came down downstairs this afternoon and I told my sister and mom that I was about to cry. They asked why. I told them that I couldn’t wait for my books. Then, I went in a detailed description of when all my books were coming out (All the HoO books and the rest of the SK series). Then I died.
Just joking. Only part of me died.
Anyways.
So, since “The Showdown in Sin City”’s prologue is out and it says that Sammy barely knows her father, most of our ‘Sammy’s dad’ predictions are dead. No Officer Borsch. Not Andre. Probably not that one guy from Art of Deception. And it might be a guy we’ve never met before. Hmmm.
Which sucks for us.
And you know what else?
I still wanna know who goes on the Cruise. Will it just be Sammy and her dad? Cause if it is, well, there’s no Billy and Casey.  *Insert depressed face*.
Steph said she felt that JJ was “Billy’s” book. Then SSC (Showdown in Sin City) is Heather’s book. Then Killer Cruise is Sammy and her Dad’s “book.”
I have a question for ya’ll. Did WVD say that the last book is probably going to be other people’s POV? If it is, I will scream. I need a Casey/Billy POV. Maybe Dorito’s POV!!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!
But anyways….again.
I would like to say that my Sammy obsession has returned! I just needed a kick in the butt and a wakeup call. (Which was the realization that JJ is 3 MONTHS AWAY! And Steph’s post on JJ and Kylie just being cool like that.)
So thank you.
Now, on a completely unrelated note.
I know it super late, but the Hunger Games was amazing. If you STILL haven’t seen it, I feel sorry for you. I loved it. Apparently Gary Ross isn’t returning (sad day).
And I haven’t been updated on the Sea of Monsters movie (I haven’t checked in 2 months or so) and found out they have some of the characters! This is from IMBd.com (which is pretty reliable) and some other websites. These are the main castings:
This is Clarisse: Leven Rambin. Now, she played in the Hunger Games (Glimmer) and although she doesn’t have stringy brown hair or look strong and, well, like an Ares child, I think she could do well. Leven has bigger bones and looks strong (in a girlish way). You can be pretty but fierce.

(She’s the one on the WAY right)

This is Tyson: Douglas Smith. I’ve heard he’s actually big (Maybe 6 ft?) and he’s playing a 7th grader, so he’s big enough and I feel that no one I knew (actor wise) could be a better pick.

This is Thalia. She is played by Paloma Kwiatkowski.I think it  was a good pick (Thalia’s what? 14/15 in SoM? Plus, by the end of the series, she can’t look super old)

Chiron is being replaced by Anthony Head:

And Hermes is being played by Nathan Fillion:

If you want to see the Gray sisters or whatever, here’s the website: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1854564/
Anyways. Last weekend I had a lot planned. I was going to work on my school projects, write, update MLWN and maybe some PJO stories….but I didn’t. You know why? I stalked the Hunger Games cast all weekend. I watched LOTS of interviews and such. I love Clove and Foxface. I have to say. I love district 2 (in the 1st book). I love District 4 in the 2nd book. I also love District 12 (or course).

I love you all. I hope you all had an awesome weekend. I hope you have an awesome week. But most of all, I hope something beautifully Sammy Keyes happen to you (that didn’t make sense, did it? Oh well, I have no idea what I meant anyway. Well I did, but…never mind.)
I love you.

They inspire, they comfort, they teach...Books, how I love thee

I felt so smart today and yesterday. Too smart for my own good. So here's the deal, yesterday, in Spanish 1, we had a guess speaker from this museum thing come in and talk about the Day of the Dead. I was one of the few people who knew a little about it, because it was in Sammy Keyes and the Night of Skulls. So I was all like 'isn't this this Holiday in which  people come to the graves of loved ones and have picnics and talk about the person and their life? And they bring things they loved?" And I also knew about the Candy Skulls. oh yeah.

And then today and yesterday, I knew all the things about Greek and roman myths. We went over the Olympians, and I knew all of their roman names and stuff, and this dude next to me thought I was freaking amazing, which I am :) Hahaha, just kidding...well sorta. Anyways, I knew all the myths and the whole Persephone/Hades story, and it just surprised at how much no one knows about Greek myths! They didn't know how to spell Aphrodite, and they took the whole class period getting over that the gods slept with their relatives. And I wanted SO bad to correct my teacher, because she said Aphrodite was created when Kronos' essence went into the ocean, but it was URANUS's essence when kronos defeated him. Boo-ya.

And then in the Kane Chronicles, the 2nd book? i learned that the first hours when you're sleeping, it's like you're in a coma, then the last few hours it's when you have dreams.

The point here I'm trying to make is that books can teach you a LOT! Tons of random facts that will make you look sooooo smart in the future. But it doesn't only teach you random facts, it teaches you life lessons.
Like, My friend was going a little boy crazy over this one guy she really likes(she still likes him now) and I felt like I was losing her to the Dark Hole of love...and I was sitting on my bus, and thought,
Oh my flipping word! I sound like Sammy  in Sammy keyes and the Art of Deception!!!! Marissa was going boy crazy over Danny, and she didn't know what to do!So I went through the book in my mind, looking for Sammy's solution to our problem. Hudson told her to let her be fascinated, that she would come back down from Cloud 9 soon, and i felt better. She's not AS Boy crazed as she was, just a little.

There are SO many other problems I have faced, and found the answers in my books. Sammy encouraged me that I should be who I want to be, and that you don't need to wear skirts and be a flirt to be super awesome. Percy Jackson showed me that it doesn't matter how good i did on a test, or if i was the best, all that mattered was if i tried my best, I'd be the best. The best I can possibly be is enough.

Whoever says reading is just for fun and to escape the world is dead wrong.

DEAD WRONG!!!

Books teach you, inspire you, give you companionship....

If you're like me, your best friends are book characters. I AM going to to marry Leo Valdez or Billy Pratt...one day. Well, Billy has Marissa now, soooo....I might just take Leo. hahahaha. I should change my name to Mrs. Leo Valdez, huh? :)

My book characters are my best friends. i don't know what I'd do without them.

They're inspiring, sweet, they can't get in fights with me, they're funny, they're rebels against society, like me.....I really wish they were real.

Do I sound like a loser who has no friends?

Cuz i totally am.

Okay, so i have friends, but I don't like talking to them. They don't text me and ask to hang out for a reason. they know it.

Plus, I'm having friend troubles. With Julie. She likes to beat me at everything. She always compares our math scores, and when she got 39/40 on the test, and I got 38/40 on the test, and she was all like "Hahaha. I got a better score." I yelled at her. I said she needed to shut the heck up, and that I didn't need her opinion or her score to know that I did a good job, and she said she meant it as a joke, but she's been saying it for a LONG time, so i told her she had a big mouth and to shut up.

She compares us all the time. She doesn't like to give me random compliments, and instead, like to secretly insult me.

Even i have to admit my older sister, Faye, is cool. She's a jeans and tee-shirts girl, doesn't really care about doing what's "in" and has a pretty strong mind and can kinda be violent. Like, I said, she's amazing, right? ;) haha. But I'm seriously lucky to have her as a role model. I mean, she inspired me to be all those things...well, they're mostly good. Julie doesn't have a sister. She only has a brother who's a senior who's a nerd who plays video games all day and never talks to her. I honestly think she might be a little jealous this I have an sweet family. we're all close, my parents are freaking fantastic, my mom makes actual meals for the family..she doesn't get that.

haha. But I mean, who says that!!! To their best friend!!!!

I'm about to blow a gasket.

I don't even know what the means.

I wish I didn't have to have friends.

Dropping that subject, I would like to share my Sammy keyes Obsession with you. How it all started.......

*FLASHBACK*

I was at the library with my mom and my younger sister, Jo. I was looking for a book, so I went to the tween section thingy. This was about 5th/6th grade, I can't remember.

My mom showed me a book, and it was called Sammy Keyes and the Wild Things. I was reluctant, because I didn't really like new book series because they always disappointed me.

I read it, and liked it, so I went in for another. ( don't know which one)

I didn't really care about Casey then. i didn't even remember even reading about him or Billy Pratt back then.

I stopped reading for some reason, we went to the library less and less.

I started back up in 7t grade, that or I started reading the books at the end of 6th grade and never really stopped reading them...it bugs me that i don't know.

I remember reading Sisters of Mercy at the end of 7th grade and the Art of Deception too. I don't think I was too obsessed about the books then. But then Summer came. And I remember sitting in my sister, Faye's room reading Skeleton man and Moustache Mary. I was flipping out while reading them. That's when i really started liking Sammy keyes. I think the last book I read was Skeleton man. I was officially obsessed when I found SK fanfiction. Then I waited about a year or a year and a half for Wedding Crasher and then night of Skulls and now Justice Jack and then Wayward parents.

I have severe OCD!!!

*End of flashback*

Crazy right? It's always bugged me how i can't remember my Sammy Keyes journey. i cannot wait to be old and be able to look back at how crazy i was about SK and PJO. it's going to be beautiful.

So the point of this post was to say, Books inspire, not just to entertain, and whoever says else wise, I'll give him the old Sammy keyes/Annabeth Chase punch to the face.
